Honors in Chemistry

Departmental Honors Program: Available in this department for junior or senior students who meet the following requirements. To graduate with honors in chemistry, students will demonstrate research competency by engaging in not less than two semesters of research with a chemistry faculty mentor. Honors students will write a report of their research using proper grammar and style for the discipline. Each student will demonstrate proficiency in public speaking by making an oral presentation to the departmental honors committee, other chemistry faculty members, and students.

Honors Requirements:
  • Overall GPA of 3.25 or better.
  • Chemistry GPA of 3.50 or better.
  • Consent of Department Chair.
  • Two or more semesters of research with a chemistry faculty member.
  • Written thesis summarizing research with proper grammar using ACS style (guide).
  • Oral presentation to departmental honors committee, chemistry faculty, and students.
  • Honors in Majors and Thesis Release Forms (submit to registrar).
  • Honors Thesis Cover page should be included.
