"Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Fred Watson attended LSU for all three degrees: a BS in Chemistry and Physics, an MS in Physical Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry under the direction of Sean P. McGlynn. Between the MS and Ph.D. degrees, he was employed for two years as a staff scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. After a post-doctoral appointment in the Biophysics Department of Michigan State University, he joined the chemistry faculty of UALR where he served for 23 years, 6 as Department Head. After a sabbatical leave at the CAMD Synchrotron facility at LSU-BR, he became the Chemistry Department Head at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (now ULM, then NLU). He retired from ULM after 20 years, and, in January of 2013, moved to Conway, Arkansas, where he now resides. His early research involved organic photoconduction and vacuum UV molecular spectroscopy. His current educational interest deals with how to teach non-quantitative thinkers to be good science students.  He maintains a web site at www.terriblejane.com/fwatson/vitae.doc.
