COPA Group Trips


COPA Group Trips 

COPA is starting their group trips during the 2017-2018 year.  Below are some notes for the group trips.

  1. All trips will be only in Arkansas.
  2. Maximum numbers for trips will be 12 personnel.
  3. All participants must attend a pre-trip meeting the night before the trip.
  4. Costs for trips can range from $10 to $30.
  5. All payments and registrations must be done at the HPER Fitness Center.
  6. COPA will not provide any meals on the trips, but coolers will be provided.
  7. Wear the proper shoes and attire for the location, duration, and weather.
  8. Provide your own non-glass water carrying device capable of holding at least 20 ounces.
  9. Provide your own outdoor accessories (i.e. hat, sunblock, bug sprays, snack foods, walking sticks/poles…).
  10. Hiking frequently and participating in other forms of aerobic fitness like cycling, swimming, running or group fitness classes.
  11. Be physically capable of walking unassisted on uneven ground, with possible changes of ten to thirty degrees of elevation, and capable of up or down on large rocks or small boulders.


2017-2018 COPA Trips


Trip 1 – January 27 – Hike the Bear Cave and Cedar Falls Trail at Petit Jean Mountain

Bear Cave Trail is a 1.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail that features a cave and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and rock climbing.  Bear Cave trail is a walk under, around, through and over gigantic sandstone boulders.  Cedar Falls Trail is a 1.7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate.

Trip 2 – February 17 – Hike the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Boy Scout Trail

The Boy Scout Trail is a 12 mile loop, rated as difficult, that encompasses parts of most of the trails in the park which includes the most scenic areas in the park.

Trip 3 – March 10 – Mountain Bike, Hike, and Kayak/Canoe at Woolly Hollow State Park

COPA will provide mountain bikes, canoes and kayaks.  COPA will have a guided 2-mile ride on the North and South Loop, canoe and kayak paddling instructions, go for your own hike, or try a little of all three activities.

Trip 4 – April 14 – Canoe the Buffalo River from Maumee South to Buffalo Point

Put in at Maumee South, float to Spring Creek (5 miles), and have lunch.  Put in again and float to Buffalo Point (6 miles).
