Welcome to the 2012 Acxiom/UCA Information Technology Careers Camp!

June 20-23, 2012

APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE 2012 IT CAMP.

All selected applicants have been notified, and almost 60 have accepted.  Unfortunately, for the first time we will not be able to invite anyone on the wait list.  All selected applicants will receive an information packet about two weeks prior to the camp.  This packet will contain the final schedule, camp rules, required forms, and directions.  Check-in for the camp will be on Wednesday, June 20th, 11:30-12:30 at New Hall (the dorm) on the campus of UCA.  The first event will be at 1 pm at Brewer-Hegeman.  Parents may attend the events of the opening afternoon, including the evening meal at Christian Cafeteria.  See you in June!!

This will be the sixth year in a row that this camp has been held.  The IT Careers Camp is designed to heighten students' interest in the Information Technology career - which is working with computers and related technology.  The camp is designed to educate students about IT careers and to encourage them to continue their education beyond high school.  Students will be part of a group comprised of some of Arkansas' brightest students as they learn about interesting and rewarding careers in IT.  The camp is made possible by the generosity of Acxiom Corporation.

New this year: a second technology track for returning campers!

As this camp has grown and matured, we are convinced that we need a second technology track for campers who have attended before.  This means that we will actively support those campers of previous years who wish to apply again.  We hope to build upon the technical foundation by adding a more advanced track for both the technology tools day as well as the Acxiom campus visit day.

Here is this year’s proposed schedule:

Wednesday, June 20^th:

12:00 pm                           Arrive

1:00 pm - 6:00 pm            Introduction, tour of campus, evening meal (parents may attend)

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm            Introduction to technology careers, ice cream social (get acquainted activities)

Thursday, June 21^st:

8:30 am - 3:00 pm          Technology tools; two tracks based on previous attendance

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm          Introduction to Acxiom Corporation

7:00 pm                           Evening activities

Friday, June 22^nd:

8:30 am - 5:00 pm          Tour and activities at two Acxiom campuses (Little Rock and Conway)

7:00 pm                           Banquet and awards ceremony

Saturday, June 23^rd:

8:00 am                           End of camp

CAMP GOALS

You'll learn about the many careers that involve working with computers.  This camp will be educational and rewarding!  Our desire is to infuse campers with direction on the variety, breadth and depth of careers in technology.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Any student who is going to enter 8^th grade through 12^th grade in the Fall of 2012 may apply.  We especially encourage incoming 10^th and 11^th grade students to apply, though all applications are considered.  This year we especially encourage previous campers to apply.

CAMP HIGHLIGHTS

• Learn about IT Careers
• Learn about applying for college and getting financial support
• Learn about Acxiom - a very successful Arkansas high tech company
• Meet IT professionals and learn about what they do
• Take a field trip to Acxiom and experience real IT operations
• Learn from knowledgeable speakers
• Meet other students from around the state
• Experience the "College Life" at UCA (all campers will spend nights in the dorm)

COST

ABSOLUTELY no camp costs for any student. All camp expenses (room, board, etc.) are covered by a grant from Acxiom Corporation.  Students need only bear the expense of getting to and from the camp.

IMPORTANT DATES

Deadline for submissions is Friday, February 17, 2012.

APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE 2012 IT CAMP. All those who apply will receive written notification in the form of a letter in early March. The letter will state the student has been accepted for the camp, not accepted, or put on a wait list.
