Endowed Scholarships

UCA Alumni Scholarships are made possible by private gifts through our Scholarship Donor Program (Indicate preferred scholarship in “Comments” section) for students attending the University of Central Arkansas. They vary considerably in dollar value and criteria, reflecting the donor’s gifts and interests. The information here is intended to serve only as a brief review.

The scholarship shall be paid in two equal installments on the dates of registration for the first and second semester of the academic year, on the conditions that the recipient has maintained the required cumulative grade point average and has completed the required semester hours.

Scholarships and Eligibility Requirements are below:

W.H. (Hank) Adams Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1.) Applicant must be a citizen of the United States

2.) Applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Arkansas or must be a child or grandchild of at least one parent and/or grandparent who has received a degree from the University of Central Arkansas or is a former student who has completed at least 60 semester hours in residency at UCA. (University of Central Arkansas is construed to mean the institution under any of its previous names).

3.) Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student or accepted for admission to UCA in the semester for which an award is made; must be in good standing as prescribed by the University Undergraduate Bulletin and the Student Handbook; must be seeking or making progress toward the requirements for the first undergraduate degree in a declared major; and must not have completed more than the maximum number of 130 hours required by the university for the baccalaureate degree, or if applicant has completed more than 130 hours it is for a course of study specifically approved by the Board of Trustees to exceed 130 for a baccalaureate or terminal degree.

4.) Applicant must be a well-rounded student with a good work ethic who exhibits a determination to obtain an education, and documents his or her needs for financial assistance.  It is desirable that applicant has successfully completed at least 12 semester hours in residence at UCA before applying for a scholarship.

5.) Scholarship awards from this fund will target applicants who do not qualify or receive an academic scholarship and those who do not qualify for need-based grants.  An application will not receive a scholarship from this fund if such scholarship, when combined with other scholarships or grants received through the Alumni Association, UCA Foundation or UCA, exceeds the cost of the university’s tuition, fees, room and board.

6.)  A recipient of a scholarship from this fund may continue to receive the award in subsequent semesters as long as eligibility requirements are fully met and the semesters of attendance are consecutive.

7.) Although the primary awards from this fund shall be scholarships, special grants may be made in an extenuating circumstance when the student is faced with an emergency.  However, special grants should be few in number and carefully screened so as not to endanger the primary scholarship purpose of the fund.  The Director of Alumni Services is authorized to determine when extenuating circumstances exist and may take action without referral to the Board of Directors or the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Harvey A. Buffalo Endowment Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Applicant must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA in the semester for which the scholarship is granted and must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA the preceding semester.  Extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

2) Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.50 on a 4.00 scale.

3) Applicant who has completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at UCA will be given priority consideration.

4) Applicant must have completed not more than 130 credit hours at UCA, although extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

5)  Applicant must be dependent in whole or in part upon his/her own efforts to provide the means of obtaining an education.  This does not preclude consideration of those applicants who have other scholarships, grants, etc., but this alone will not be considered to satisfy the requirement of “own efforts” in securing an education.  Application must include details on this requirement.

B.A. Lewis Graduate Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Applicant must have sufficient credit toward a bachelor’s degree at UCA and have been accepted for admittance to the UCA Graduate School, or have completed 6 graduate hours in the UCA Graduate School.

2) Applicant must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 graduate hours in the UCA Graduate School in the semester for which the scholarship is granted.

3)  Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 on a scale of 4.00 for all graduate courses.

4)  Applicant must submit a brief essay of 250-300 words in own writing explaining choice of professional field.

SPECIAL NOTE:  These funds may not be expended for the purpose of second graduate degree.

Dorothy M. Long Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Applicant must be enrolled for full-time status at UCA in the semester for which the scholarship is granted and must have completed full-time requirements at UCA the preceding semester.  Extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

2) Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.

3) Applicant must have completed 60 credit hours at UCA and be in good standing.

4) Applicant must be declared major in the field of mathematics or other majors in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

5) Applicant must submit a brief essay of 250-300 explaining choice of mathematics or natural sciences major as a profession.

General Scholarship and Endowment Fund

Eligibility Requirements:
1) Applicant must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA in the semester for which the scholarship is granted and must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA in the preceding semester.  Extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee

2) Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.50 on a 4.00 scale

3) Applicant must have completed 60 credit hours at UCA and be in good standing.

4) Applicant must have completed not more than 130 credit hours at UCA, although extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

5) Applicant must have demonstrated leadership and/or service in student and/or academic services at UCA, which is documented in the application; and must submit the written recommendation of an official staff member of the Division of Student Services or the major professor attesting to the authenticity of this leadership and/or service.

6) Applicant must submit a brief essay of 250-300 words in own writing explaining choice of field of study.

Minton Student Assistance Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Applicant must be a citizen of the United States.  Applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Arkansas or must be a child or grandchild of at least one parent and/or grandparent who has received a degree from the University of Central Arkansas or is a former student who has completed at least 60 semester hours in residence at UCA.  (University of Central Arkansas is construed to mean the institution under any of its previous names).

Silas D. and Mary T. Snow Fund

4) Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.75 on a 4.00 scale.

5) Applicant must have completed 60 credit hours at UCA and be in good standing.

6) Applicant must have completed not more than 130 semester hours at UCA, although extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

7) Applicant must be a declared major in a field of study at UCA.

8)  Applicant must submit a brief essay of 250-300 words in own writing explaining choice of field of study.

UCA License Plate Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Applicant must be a child or grandchild of a UCA graduate

2) Applicant must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA in the semester for which the scholarship is granted and must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at UCA the preceding semester.  Extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

3) Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.50 on a 4.00 scale.

4)  Applicant must have completed 60 credit hours at UCA and be in good standing.

5) Applicant must have completed not more than 130 credit hours at UCA, although extenuating circumstances may be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee.
