Why I Do What I Do:

My philosophy as an Education Counselor reflects dynamics that foster an atmosphere of student belonging and campus engagement by personalizing relationships through positive mentoring experiences, holistic awareness of advisee needs, and character development. Where attention is directed that (1) aligns academic degree plans with student strengths, (2) measures progress, (3) celebrates successes, and (4) connects advisees with appropriate university and community resources to empower and challenge students’ to take ownership of their education.

As a former first generation undergraduate student, who overcame the odds, I am able to relate to the most “at risk” students in a way that provides a unique and contextual dynamic that promotes a positive student-centered atmosphere. The barriers I faced during my initial college experience as a former foster child and transitional student, and then later as a non-traditional and single parent student that worked full-time while completing undergraduate degree requirements; fuels my passion for serving as an Education Counselor and commitment to serve as a role model for UCA students.
