Message from the Dean

As Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM), I want to thank you for your interest in the University of Central Arkansas – where students come first. I am excited that you are considering a major in our college. I believe you’ll find we offer some of the strongest programs available at UCA.

The academic experience in CNSM rivals that of any prestigious, small liberal arts college with faculty who are passionate about teaching students and experts in their chosen field – engaging undergraduates in related activities such as conducting research; presenting at regional, national and international conferences; and co-publishing with faculty mentors. Classes are relatively small and interactions with professors both inside and outside the classroom foster a rich learning environment. Within this context, CNSM provides options only found at large universities. Opportunities available to our undergraduates include a range of courses with unique areas of specialization, academic-focused clubs and organizations, study abroad, internships or practica, as well as community service related to your program of study. We offer a one-of-a-kind living and learning experience designed to prepare you for a career in your chosen profession and graduate school.

In support of our academic mission, our facilities include a new mathematics and computer science building, a recent chemistry building, and renovated spaces in our other buildings that contain state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and technology. Our STEM Residential College provides a culture of support and expectations of success for our incoming students. After your first year you will have an opportunity to join our EPIC Residential College program, an experience designed to challenge you in ways that you have never been challenged before and to provide you with skills that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Our faculty members have a long history of success in obtaining outside funds to improve facilities, acquire new instrumentation, and conduct cutting-edge research. Our undergraduates often acquire a level of hands-on experience that is not typically acquired at other institutions until graduate school. Visit our website for more information about the exceptional opportunities available to you in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Again, I am delighted that you are considering the University of Central Arkansas, and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. I hope to see you on campus soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephen Addison, Interim Dean
Dean, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
