As a Public Relations major at UCA, you’ll have access to all of the distinct advantages that make the UCA experience special. Just a few of the benefits of our program include:
- Expert Faculty our professors have extensive professional consulting experience and diverse academic credentials. They are dedicated to the success of their students, both in the classroom and in the future. Our instructors cultivate a student-centered learning environment, and provide individual academic and career mentoring, as well as opportunities for service learning and other engagement activities through their valuable connections with various PR organizations.
- Hands-On Learning our program incorporates a competitive capstone project in which teams of students develop a PR campaign for an outside client. The winning campaign is adopted by the organization. We offer a variety of internships with public relations firms in the state and around the country, providing our students with experiential learning, professional networking opportunities, and a proven work record.
- Student Organizations our students have the opportunity to participate in an active chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), which provides PR work for various organizations, sponsors guest speakers, and develops community connections. PR students are also welcome to participate in UCA’s award-winning Forensics Team, sponsored by the Department of Communication, and which competes in national and regional competition in debate and other speaking events. The Forensics Team also sponsors both a major high school and college debate tournament on the UCA campus each year.
- Employment Opportunities UCA is the only Arkansas state university to offer a Public Relations degree. PR is one of the fastest growing industries in the communications field, offering career opportunities as public relations and media specialists, speechwriters, promotional campaigners, sports publicists, public opinion researchers, web-content developers, and freelance consultants. Our PR majors graduate with the knowledge and skills required to compete for PR positions nationwide.
