Are you interested in a career that provides financial protection to your customer’s most valuable assets, such as their life, health, and property? Insurance and Risk Management majors at the University of Central Arkansas will study how to provide these and other essential financial securities to clients through a variety of hands-on learning experiences, both in and out of the classroom. We even offer a Certified Financial Planning track within this major, which qualifies students to become accredited as a Certified Financial Planner and enter a growing field to work in CPA firms, brokerage firms, and financial planning firms. Our students are prepared to receive licensure (from the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research as well as state licensing programs) and gain the skills they need to succeed as employees in claims adjustment, insurance agencies, and administrative services for numerous industries.
As an Insurance and Risk Management major at UCA, you’ll have access to all of the distinct advantages that make the UCA experience special. In fact, UCA’s Insurance and Risk Management major is recognized as one of the leading programs in the nation, as well as one of the fastest growing, and is the only program of its kind in the state. Just a few of the benefits include:
- Expert Faculty who are Certified Insurance Counselors, one of the most highly recognized professional education designations in the nation, and are active in the industry as consultants. Our instructors bring their real-world knowledge to the classroom with experiential learning, like case studies and insurance simulations, and attract many professional speakers to campus. They also contribute individual attention to our students and care about their success at UCA and beyond, often providing job referrals for graduates across the nation and around the world.
- Professional Networking through internship opportunities, underwriting of research projects, and travel to symposia and industry events around the country. Additionally, UCA has a chapter of the Gamma Iota Sigma student organization, the purpose of which is to promote, encourage, and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science as professions; to encourage the high moral and scholastic attainments of its members; and to facilitate interaction of educational institutions and industry by fostering research activities, scholarship, and improved public relations.
- Community Engagement with our Ambassador Program, which brings UCA students to area high schools to introduce the possibilities of an education in Insurance and Risk Management to future generations.
- Employment Opportunities are abundant with a degree in Insurance and Risk Management as the demand is growing beyond the number of qualified candidates and our students often graduate with a number of industry certifications already completed. Recent alumni from our program have gained employment as actuaries, claims adjusters, corporate risk managers, insurance brokers and agents, loss control specialists, personal financial planners, and underwriters.
